We're talking about illuminating untold stories, sparking vital conversations, and inspiring real-world solutions. But don't think it's all serious business! The AIFF will also showcase a dazzling array of films across all your favourite regular categories, celebrating the sheer diversity of cinematic expression.
This festival is a dedicated effort to give independent filmmakers, producers, and everyone involved in the industry a magnificent platform to shine and get the recognition they truly deserve. Plus, we'll be there to support and advise them through the wild and wonderful world of film and media.
More Than Just Movies – It's a Movement!
At the heart of the AIFF is the incredible "My Name Is Climate" Foundation, an organisation passionately committed to raising awareness and driving action on climate change, sustainability, human and animal rights, environmental stewardship, and even veganism! Imagine a vibrant hub where filmmakers, activists, and audiences come together to discuss pressing issues and collaboratively forge solutions.
Beyond the mesmerising film screenings, prepare for an immersive experience with engaging workshops, inspiring lectures, and dynamic panel discussions designed to ignite action in your own communities. And trust us, it's going to be a fully catered affair with delicious packed lunches and a sumptuous dinner buffet – so you won't miss a minute of the excitement! Early booking for tickets is strongly advised – you won't want to miss out!
Almere: A City of Innovation and Green Ambition
Nestled in the province of Flevoland, Almere itself is a fitting backdrop for a festival championing sustainability and innovation. Known for its modern architecture, bold urban planning, and commitment to green living, Almere is a young city built on reclaimed land, symbolising a forward-thinking approach to development. Its numerous parks, green spaces, and focus on sustainable infrastructure align perfectly with the AIFF's ethos, making it an ideal host city for an event dedicated to positive climate action. Lalit Bhusal, the festival's founder, believes that the Almere International Film Festival will significantly boost the economy of Almere and further invigorate its art and creativity scene, particularly by encouraging local filmmakers from the Netherlands to connect with the international film industry.

The Visionary Behind the Lens: Lalit Bhusal
The driving force behind this incredible initiative is none other than Lalit Bhusal, a renowned filmmaker, writer, director, and producer who has dedicated his career to telling stories that truly matter. Lalit, who has lived in the UK since 2000, runs his film company from both the UK and the Netherlands.
You might know his powerful work from the award-winning short film "Leeches," which courageously exposed the dark truth of illegal human trafficking, particularly the exploitation of young girls in Europe. And his impactful feature film, "Crushed Wings," released in 2022, has scooped over 40 awards at film festivals worldwide for its vital exploration of FGM and violence against women. Lalit's ability to unite over 200 volunteers globally for "Crushed Wings" is a testament to his inspiring leadership and his unwavering commitment to positive change.
Lalit's passion for using film to champion social issues extends beyond his own creations. Since 2015, he's been running the successful "My Name Is Climate Film Festival" in the United Kingdom, which this year takes place on July 11th and 12th. These festivals are crucial platforms for showcasing films that advocate for human rights, animal rights, interfaith understanding, mental health, and, of course, climate action. And guess what? His plans to launch a similar festival right here in the Netherlands are now a thrilling reality with the AIFF!
But Lalit's dedication doesn't stop at filmmaking. He's a true humanitarian, serving as a media director and board member for various community groups and charities. He's even founded an organisation with a novel approach to climate change engagement, encouraging people to imagine themselves as the climate to foster deeper understanding and empathy. A pilot program in Nepal involving over 1000 students yielded remarkable results, proving that feeling connected to the climate dramatically motivates pro-environmental actions. Following this success, Lalit has now introduced mindfulness sessions here in the Netherlands, already managing to connect over 500 souls with nature! This incredible organisation aims to expand its global reach, empowering young people to become leaders in climate action and encouraging lifestyles that are harmonious with our planet.
In essence, Lalit Bhusal is a gifted filmmaker and a profoundly committed humanitarian, leaving a substantial and enduring global impact through his films, his festivals, and his innovative climate education initiatives. His life story is an inspiring example of how individual talent can truly effect profound positive change in the world.
